"Football is our life, and we can never stay away from it!"
―Jason Parker, original VV
"That thrill of a ball in your possession, the need to move my legs as fast as possible from rival players, and the satisfaction of reaching the endzone to put 6 more points on the board... Even as a kindergartener, who was barely learning his shapes and colors, I knew this prolate spheroid would define the REST of my life!"
―Jason Parker, VV Definitive Edition

Jason Santiago Parker Ortiz appears as the protagonist of Sibling Rivalries: Vancouver Vultures. He makes rare appearances in in the main Sibling Rivalries series.

History[]

Early Life[]

Jason, of Native-American and Hispanic descent, was born on January 30, 2000 in Avondale, Arizona. He has been a very athletic boy throughout his life. During his kindergarten year around 2005-2006, his father had signed him up for football. After playing for a few months, Jason had grown a love for playing the sport. Jason has played football for years, and never wanted to play another sport again, since football had become his favorite sport. He also has a little sister named Rose Parker, who was born sometime in 2008.

2011: Events of Sibling Rivalries: Vancouver Vultures[]

At least a week or two prior to the comic taking place, Jason and his family moved from Avondale, Arizona, to Vancouver, British Colombia because his parents accepted some unknown job opprotunity. Jason joins the Vancouver Vultures, a local youth football team, hoping to stick to his dreams of becoming a successful player. He makes a good first impression on the coach and team captain and they already want to see more of him in action soon. After the first practice, Jason meets an injured Drake Romero and helps him walk to his father's car. After complimenting each other's plays on the field, they instantly become best friends.

Jason returns to the football field the next day to work on his speed when running the ball. He meets Drake again, along with two other Vultures players Gerald McReary and Joel Gonzales who always come out to the field to play on the weekends. The boys play a few rounds of Jason running to the endzone with the ball as the others chase him, and he continues to impress them. Jason also gets the attention of Wendy Delgado, a girl watching from afar, who is already in love with his skills and wants to ask him out soon.

Jason helps the Vultures win their first game by running the ball to the endzone multiple times, and the audience goes crazy for him. Even somebody like Patrick McReary, who intended on playing on his PlayStation Portable rather than watching the game, was interested to watch him succeed. Following the first game, team captain Estevan Caballero compliments Jason and hopes that he doesn't give up any time soon, because there is a chance he will acheieve national fame.

Several weeks later, after more Vultures wins by Jason, Wendy finally meets Jason and tells him how he loves seeing him on the field. She asks him out for food and he agrees. Drake asks where is Jason going with this mysterious girl and Jason tells her she is taking him out to eat. Drake laughs and tells them "don't have too much fun!", but he is shown to be worried about how this girl might distract him from football.

Wendy and Jason have a thoughtful conversation where Jason tells her how he began playing football at a young age, and Wendy was jealous that he found his dream at a very young age. Jason encourages her to keep looking for what makes her happy, and this is when the two realize they really love each other.

The next day, Jason arrives late to the football field because he was talking to Wendy on his way here. When Jason tries playing with Drake, Gerry, and Joel, Drake's fears about Wendy distracting Jason become true, as Jason gets tackled by Joel because he was staring at Wendy on the bleachers. Drake asks Jason what distracted him and Jason dodges the question. They attempt the play again, but Jason looks at Wendy again and he lets the ball hit him on the head, making him fall onto the ground. Drake is now furious and picks Jason up, yelling at him to demand what distracted him. Wendy tells him to leave Jason alone, and Drake storms off because he knows Wendy was the reason why. Jason tries to go after Drake but Drake tells everybody to leave him alone. Jason and Drake leave the field opposite directions, and Wendy leaves too, leaving Gerry and Joel by themselves.

That night, Jason is in his bedroom alone and upset because he didn't have the heart to tell Drake that Wendy is indeed the one distracting her. He tries to remember his dreams of winning player of the year, but his thoughts quickly jump to being with Wendy and that is when he realizes he is screwed.

The turning point of the story is set at the Vultures' football game in Countryside Village. Jason sees Drake for the first time in a few days and tries to apologize, but Drake tells him to just dump Wendy. Jason suspects that Drake might be upset about something more than just Wendy, but Drake gives him the cold shoulder. During the game, Jason is running to the endzone with the ball when his mind wanders off to him and Wendy relaxing on a beach. He snaps right back to reality when a rival player tackles him to the ground and leaves him dazed. Drake begins punching Jason out of anger that he got distracted by Wendy during an actual game, and he is kicked off the team by Estevan and Coach Hill right away.

Jason wakes up the next day in the hospital, where it is revealed that the player broke some of his rib bones; he also has a bruise on his chest from Drake punching him. Jason tells his parents how it is hard for him to focus because of Wendy entering his life, but then Wendy comes into his hospital room to apologize for the pain she has caused him. She offers to step aside to let him focus on football, and she leaves crying. Jason is also left heartbroken since he doesn't feel satisfied with Wendy out of his life.

A few days later, Jason leaves the hospital with a brace around his torso. He goes to the football field at night attempting to find Drake, and sure enough Drake shows up. Jason wants to apologize but Drake feels that he owes more of an apology. Drake admits why he got so mad about Jason being distracted by Wendy, which involves his father having a dream of joining the Canadian Air Force, only to fall in love with a lady and having a baby with her. The father lost his chance to enter the Air Force and he remains miserable to this day; Drake just doesn't want Jason to hate Wendy for taking him away from his life goal.

Drake hopes Jason can find a proper balance between football and Wendy. That is when Jason has the idea of training his mind to return back to football immediately after it drifts off to Wendy. The next day, they invite Wendy and Estevan to the field to see them carry out their plan. Drake pulls Jason down the field in a wagon as Jason focuses his thoughts to balance both football and Wendy. He succeeds at this and Wendy is happy for him. Estevan is also proud of the boys' teamwork and offers Drake his position back on the team. Drake decides to wait until Jason heals before they return, so they can practice a few more times to ensure Jason can focus on football.

A few weeks later, Jason is healed and goes back to scoring touchdowns for the team. Everybody is proud that he has returned, and he feels ready for the upcoming championship.

The championship game is set in Victoria (the capital of British Colombia), and the Vultures face against a team named the Victoria Royals. Jason meets Irving Lavoie, the wide reciever for the Royals who ends up being just as fast as him, if not even faster. Irving immediately racks up touchdowns for the Royals and the Vultures fear they will lose this game. Wendy thinks Jason should enter the field on the defensive line to take down Irving, especially because he insulted Jason and told him to go back to the U.S. so he can be Canada's best youth football player.

Jason thanks Wendy for the brilliant idea and he chases down Irving in the next play. Irving insults him some more and tells him for everybody that loves him to be ready for disapointment. Jason feels like he is going to pass out since Irving is too fast, but then he has flashbacks of all the compliments recieved throughout the story by his family and friends. This gives Jason the power to catch up to Irving and tackle him; Irving is injured and will be out for the rest of the game. The Vultures now have the ball and Jason leads the team to ultimate victory by running touchdowns. Everybody is cheering for him, especially Wendy who he finally shares a true kiss with.

Jason recieves the trophy he desired for being the player of the year. He still keeps this trophy close to him through the next year, but he cannot wait to replace it with the 2012 Player of The Year trophy. Jason is back on the field with Drake and Gerry while Joel left to hang out with Salvador Rosales' friends. Jason is happy to have his two friends as brother figures, and of course, Wendy watching him from the bleachers. They run the ball one more time, and as Jason enters the endzone, Drake and Gerry cling onto his arms causing them all to fall onto the field. They all share some laughs as the scene pans out to a bird eye's view of the field.

At least a week or two prior to the comic taking place, Jason and his family moved from Avondale, Arizona, to Vancouver, British Colombia for an unknown reason. Jason joined the Vancouver Vultures, a local youth football team, hoping to make it big in the providence. After the first practice, Jason meets an injured Drake Romero and helps him walk to his father's car. After complimenting each other's plays on the field, they instantly become best friends.

During the next few days, Jason hangs out and plays football with Drake, Gerald McReary, and Joel Gonzales at the Vancouver Football Field.

During the Vulture's first game, Jason succesfully helps the team win by running the ball for nearly the entire game. The team captain, Esteven Caballero, is very impressed with Jason's skills (which he got from playing football back in Arizona).

Shortly after the first game, Jason meets Wendy Delgado, a cute girl who was at the game, and is also expresses how impressed she is with him. After taking Jason and Drake to eat, Jason instantly falls in love with her.

However, Jason being in love with Wendy puts his goal of becoming a professional football player in danger. The next time the boys play at their field, just as Jason is ready to recieve a pass from Drake, he is distracted by Wendy, who is watching on the bleachers, Jason gets hit by the ball in the head. Drake is confused because usually Jason ALWAYS sucessfully catches the ball. When Jason tells Drake he got distracted by Wendy, it angers Drake, who says "Jason Parker never gets distracted, Jason Parker stays with the game!" Drake then storms off the field, saying if Jason will not play right, he does not want to play with him.

At home, Jason is still upset over Drake getting mad at him. He tells his father his problem, and he says it's good to have a girlfriend, but not good to let her take him away from his life goal. Jason takes his advice, but it backfires the next day.

The turning part of the story takes place at the Vulture's game in Countryside Village. As the game starts, Jason recieves the ball, kicked by Michael Guzman. Then, he sees Wendy came to the game. Wendy is talking to Patrick McReary, who turns him down because Packie was asking her out; she says her heart is only set on Jason. This causes a fantasy in Jason's imagination, consisting of him about to kiss Wendy. When the coach blows his whistle, Jason snaps out of the fantasy, and realized he had just been tackled by a player from another team, which was hard enough to make his helmet pop off. Estevan is disappointed in Jason, saying he can't be distracted by Wendy at EVERY game, then tells him he is officially off the team. Jason is replaced by his backup, who is Joel's younger brother Jose Gonzales.

This upsets Jason even more, who then thinks he does not even deserve his own uniform anymore. The Vultures lose 35-15, and after the game, Mr. Parker finds Jason in the trunk, who is stripped to only his boxers and wristbands, and his eye paint ruined (possibly from crying). Jason tells his dad he gives up on football, much to his father's dismay. With Wendy in earshot, Jason says if he had never met her, none of the events of the night would happen, and he would rather be back in Arizona. Mr. Parker says he will talk to his mother about this. Wendy, who hears everything, goes up to Jason, asking if he really meant all of that. Jason says no, but Wendy knows he is lying. She walks away in anger as Jason realizes his life is ruined. He falls back into the trunk of the car, which closes shut.

Jason does not talk to anyone for the next few weeks. On the day of the Vulture's championship game, he infers maybe everyone forgot about him. In Victoria (the capital of British Colombia), the game is about to start. Jose tells Estevan he has a fever, and cannot play. Estevan is worried, because there is no backup for Jose with Jason long gone. Just then, Drake whispers something in his ear about giving Jason another chance. Jason is overjoyed when Estevan calls him, and he immediately shows up with his full uniform on. Jason goes back to work the second the game starts, running all the balls every time they are passed to him. Eventually, the Vultures (thanks to Jason) win the championship 45-25! Estevan, along with many of Jason's friends, congradulate Jason for his comeback, and once again being a hit. Wendy then walks up to Jason, and is happy he no longer means everything he said weeks ago. The two then share a kiss as the epilogue begins a few days later.

With everything back to normal, and Jason finally getting his goal accomplished, he once again plays with Drake, Gerry, and Joel at their football field, with Wendy happily watching them. When Jason recieves another pass, he looks at Wendy, who smiles at him, and Jason smiles back, only to find himself running into Drake, then both of them fall onto the ground. Everyone share a laugh as the scene pans out to a bird eye's view of the field.

Late October 2013: Before Sibling Rivalries appearances[]

Please see Story Wrap-Up

Essentially, Jason Parker would be elected as the new team captain of the Vancouver Vultures.

Jason's appearances in Sibling Rivalries[]

Jason appears in Sibling Rivalries in the Season 5 comic "ApRiL fOoLs DaY: wIsCoNsIn StYlE!", which is set in April 2016. However, this is non-canon.

When Packie falls out of his seat in Michael Jacob's classroom, Jason bursts into the classroom to help Packie back up. Packie thanks him, and Jason leaves with a jetpack. Angel Chacon is happy to see Jason, although he comments that he never appeared in SR: VS, therefore he shouldn't even know who he is.

Jason appeared again in a more major role in the comic "Brothers For Life" (which was later deemed non-canon along with the comic before it), and helped Packie when him and his brother Francis were fighting. He returned in the next comic "Dream On", but only in a dream of Gerry's.

Jason's first true canon appearance of the main series was in "Fightin' Irish".

Appearance[]

Jason's trademark clothes in the original VV consist of his beanie (with some hair sticking out), his #9 Drew Brees jersey, wristbands, shorts, long socks, and shoes. His football uniform is the standard uniform seen throughout the franchise, with Parker wearing #7 on the jersey. When Jason does not have his beanie or helment on, his hair looks similar to the hairstyle of Patrick McReary.

Jason's regular appearance in the Definitive Edition of VV is essentially the same as the original, although the shirt has a small pin of the state of Arizona's flag on the left chest, and he now has two bands on his shoulders (something his main series appearance also features). Also similar to his main series version, he also has a towel tucked into the left side of his shorts similar to Joel Gonzales. The original version had Jason staying in the same trademark clothes when playing with Drake, Gerry, and Joel for fun on the football field, but the Definitive Edition has him take off the Drew Brees jersey to play in his muscle shirt that he wears underneath. This shirt simply simply has a #9 on both sides of the shirt, and lacks Brees' name on the back as well as the Arizona pin.

Jason has a slightly different appearance in the main series. He keeps his trademark shirt from SR: VV, although now he has a small football badge on the right chest, with the left having a simple star. The shirt is no longer a Drew Brees shirt but is simply the number 7 (which also happens to be his Vultures team number). He wears a hat instead of a beanie, and has more hair (which remains hidden in his hat). He is also depicted with pimples.

Personality[]

Jason Parker cares very much about good sportsmanship and being respectful to everybody. He is encouraging to those he meets, such as telling Wendy that it is okay if she doesn't know what she wants to be when she grows up just yet. Furthermore, he hopes that everybody on the Vancouver Vultures will grow and succeed at being amazing football players. He tries not to be selfish, even if his ultimate goal is for himself to be the best youth football player in British Colombia.

It is possible that Jason falls in love too fast, since he barely knew Wendy for only a day and she was already distracting him from football (although that is a common trend in the series as seen with Maureen and Hector Wilson, Packie and Michelle Stone, Kate and Mark Sanders, and even Cameron O'Neill and Brooklyn Andrysiak, who instantly fall in love).

In the original comic, Jason is only implied to be crying after he was kicked off the Vancouver Vultures and knows how much of a distraction Wendy is being to him. In the Definitive Edition, Jason cries a few times: he cries tears of joy after scoring the first and last touchdown of his first season on the Vancouver Vultures, and he cries when Wendy says goodbye since she offers to step aside as to no longer distract him from football.

Trivia[]

  • Jason was born on the same date as Super Bowl XXXIV.
  • Jason arrives to Vancouver (by plane) in about a week. He has already befriended Salvador Rosales and Patrick McReary before the comic begins.
    • In VV Definitive Edition, Jason was not immediately friends with Packie. In fact, the two never shared any dialogue together. Packie congratulates him for winning the championship game and tells him he wouldn't mind being his friend; he tells Jason that if he wants to be friends, then simply ask Gerry if he wants to meet his family. Jason does not reply, but since they are friends later down the line, he must have taken up Packie's offer.
  • Although Jason supposedly never drops any passes or gets tackled, he still always has grass stains on his uniform after a game, like other football players in the franchise. In VV Definitive Edition, it is seen that he may acquire these stains from the often humorous ways he enters the endzone, which usually involve sliding onto the grass.
  • Jason Parker was mentioned in the Season 6 comic "Attack of the BeastDroid", as the one that purchased Grand Theft Auto IV for Packie and Francis.
  • Season 7 is currently the season with the most series appearances by Jason.
  • Jason is very fond of the restaurant Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers. As mentioned in "Love, Stevie", he only had it a few times while in Arizona, while the next comic sees him happily reunite with the food.
    • Similar to Gerry, while Jason occassionally pigs out on food, he feels regret for cheating on his diet. He asks Packie and Francis to please not tell Estevan what he is eating.
  • Packie and Francis have a secret code to call Jason over to Green Bay and talk to Gerry should the latter ever quit football. It is 473-25 which means "Gerry Quit Football - Call Jason".
  • Gerry evidently still misses Jason and will always consider him to be a teammate. Jason often appears in his dreams where he plays alongside his current teammates (and even real-life football players like Drew Brees), in comics such as "Dream On" and "The Other Gerry".
